Underground burning of Jharia coal mine (India) and associated surface deformation using InSAR data

چکیده

The underground burning in the Jharia coal mine (JCM) India is a highly devastating environmental hazard inducing various adverse consequences. In present study, we carried out time series analyses based on Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) and land surface temperature (LST) to study risk. First, permanent scatterer (PS) analysis using Sentinel-1 images over three years was performed detect spatio-temporal distribution of ground deformation. Comparison thermal anomaly clearly delineated subsidence spots associated with oxygen supply combustion areas. On contrary, few deformations were mapped showing pronounced uplift up 10 mm/year compared horizontal creeping fire activities. Such deformation patterns have never been observed. We modeled these observations from satellite data as consequence strong pressurized source that induces migration surrounding geological formations. Further, detailed investigations modeling are required mitigate impact hazards fires at different locations JCM.

Estimation of Alpine Permafrost Surface Deformation Using InSAR Data

The detection of active rock glacier and the quantification of the observed surface movement as well as its temporal change using the D-InSAR method are presented. An average deformation rate of -7.7 mm/35 days in the radar lineof-sight, in the summer of 1992, was estimated. Whereas, the corresponding geodetic measurement, vertical component of 3D flow velocity, was about –8.0 mm/35 days. Addit...

Assessing the environmental impacts of coal mining using analytical hierarchy process: A case study of Jharia coal-field, India

Jharia coal-field holds unequivocal importance in the Indian context as it is the only source of prime coking coal in the country. Haphazard mining over nearly a century has led to environmental changes to a large extent such as degradation in the quality of air, water, soil, changes in landform, land-use/land-cover and vegetation distribution. Environmental impact assessment is a process to as...
